Compact digital camera March 11, 2010 David Hill Let me start by declaring that I use film cameras most of the time. I bought this camera as a more pocketable alternative for general use, and it's OK. It suffers from the usual problem of shutter lag and the screen can be difficult to see in sunlight (although nowhere near as bad as some). The anti-shake facility seems to be pretty ineffective, although in general the quality of the pictures is very good. Build quality feels better than average, although it is difficult to get exactly the right framing with the zoom control - it overshoots too easily. Battery life has not been a problem and the options offered by the EXR facility are useful and work well. In conclusion it seems to be an entirely adequate camera of a reputable make, good value, and compares very favourably with others on the market.
Great for me........... February 25, 2010 D. Harries (SUSSEX. UK) Looked at loads....Got confused....Not a photo geek by a long way...Thought what do I want it to do ???..Ans..Best pics I can get to look like a Pro,with all the tricks that help.....Nearly bought the Kodak Z950...It was close...Still not sure if I was right..But very happy with my FUJI...Still learning...EXR is brill..start from there and experiment..It is easy and fun...Amazed at how much video you get on 2gb card..Bought 4 x 4gb HDSD cards.. never needed to change one yet!!!.....GREAT..Brilliant quality Pics .Battery seem to hold up OK.Tho to late for me as I have bought 2 extra as back up...You never know tho..all those cards and batteries I could get very snappy for a long time...DH
Just not for me February 17, 2010 G. Barker I bought this on Amazon because it wasn't available in any physical shops to see what it's like. It's quite bulky and I was disappointed with image quality, but perhaps I'd built it up too much. I opted for a Panasonic Lumix FX60 in the end, just because I felt it suited me better.
Large sensor is a winner February 11, 2010 Benito Benito (London) My reason to buy this is the large (1/1.6 inch) sensor. It is larger than anything in its class (typically 1/2.2 inches) and as big as that of the Lumix LX3 or Canon S90. True you don't get the fast lens, raw output etc of these cameras, but it approximately half the cost and really this camera is smaller than these two. Which ever way Fujifilm cut it with their EXR modes, the large senor will give you higher signal-to-noise than its rivals. Indeed comparison with my Lumix FX33 at ISO400 were poor in comparison to the F200EXR's ISO at 800, perhaps even 1600 too.
Addendum: I printed off a photo at ISO 1600 on a 5"x7" print. Whilst noise is apparent, I would describe it as good enough 'for government use'.
For those who notice the manual controls only permit the aperature to be wide open or completely closed, this is because the camera does not have an 'iris' but uses a neutral density filter. At least Fuijifilm were honest enough to say so in the specifications.
For Mac users, I found like other readers that the F200EXR does not connect via the USB as the usual 'drive'. This is easily overcome by using Apple's "Image Capture" (found under Applications). It instantly recognizes the camera and downloads the images. In fact it is much faster than the other way of treating the camera as a card reader. I would not bother with Fujifilms viewer software.
The reason for 4-stars is that I would reserve 5-stars when they add RAW output. Also the zoom is a little oversensitive and I have trouble overshooting. Otherwise I am 100% happy with this.
