What Can I say...........Yawn. ZZzzzzzzzzzz September 2, 2010 bluemidget Having been an avid fan of the Final Fantasy Series since FFVII I have been looking forward to playing this game for a year and a half. I am so disappointed. After 20 hours of gameplay I decided I was not enjoying the game at all and stopped playing it. I know unheard of where FF is concerned......Until now.
Where has the free roaming, magic, fun and enchantment gone that kept us playing until 4am in the morning on the previous games. We played FF because we liked the twee characters (remember vivi and aeris even wakka and all the others) and villages and battle systems where you could take your time and plan your moves, and who could forget how great we felt when we used a summons to knock thousands of hp off enemies.
We forgave the repetitive fighting to level up because the games where flipping fantastic. From the moment you played a new ff game it was always wow and then you were glued for 150 hours plus, strategy guide at the ready cause you know you want to complete 100%
Sorry FF XIII no wow from me you are just to linear, the characters are harsh and even the fighting can be fully automated. I struggled to play the twenty hours I did and decided to go back and play Star Ocean - The Last Hope International (Get it on the PS3 - on the xbox you'll get fed up with changing disks at the end) and this renewed by faith in the style of RPG's that I love.
I hope FFXIV Online will renew my love of the FF series.........Square Enix if you read these reviews. Let's have a bit of traditional FF gameplay back with your fantastic graphics. We look forward to the new but don't change it out of all recognition. the FF series has a band of older generation followers who have been enjoying ff for thirteen years (Since FFVII PS1) don't lose us.

Graphics great, battles sometimes interesting but where oh where are the side quests!! August 24, 2010 Book Lemur (U.K.) After 25 hours of playing, I'm giving up on this game.....
What made FFs such great games on the PS2 was that, when you got bored with the story (or you couldn't get past a particularly powerful monster) you could always slip away, do some exploring, talk to people, do side quests for a change and go back to places to level up. This gave the game depth and variety - which seems to be sorely missing in this FF game. I'm now stuck fighting a boss I can't seem to get past, no way of levelling up and, to be honest, I'm bored with the game.
It gets three stars because parts are good - the graphics are amazing, I like the battle system and how it works and the storyline is quite interesting and involved up to now.
But is this the best FF they could do on the PS3? I'm very disappointed and I would suggest that people buy an old PS2 and play FFXII instead.
Nice movies, boring game. August 16, 2010 Daniel Almeida (Portugal, Lisboa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've liked Final Fantasy (FF) for a long time.
This latest FF has the trademark gorgeous graphics, great story and interesting battles. This is where my problem with the game starts, the game is a continuous battleground, I've played for 11 hours so far and I'm yet to reach the point in the game where you can actually roam freely. So far the game has been a fight on rails, you just move to the pre-determined point where a new battle takes place, then to the next and the next and ... You get the point.
Overall the game is very beautifull and is what you would expect from a third generation console title, I just expected more game play and less repetitive battles.
The evolution of RPGs August 13, 2010 Mo Sizlack (England) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The main character is the best of any of the series (yes imho even Cloud).
The graphics are astonishing.
The story is somewhat complex, but it's good imo that SE aren't treating us like idiots. They have a running 'story' alongside in the menu so even if you do get confused, it's all there for you to read up on.
The battles are very different, but very dynamic and explosive, you DON'T just have to button bash. I ignore the clock and don't have auto-battle set as the default option.
Enemies are visible, which means you CAN avoid, you CAN get behind them or goad them into moving and getting behind them and then you get the pre-emptive strike which is really helpful in FF13. Fear not though, you can still grind, by leaving the area and returning the enemies respawn.
The music is as good as in any of the series.
I find the characters better than recent games featuring voice acting. None are wooden, or irritating.
It's a big smash in the face to start with but once you get used to it, it'll all fall into place and you should be enjoying a game of epic proportions.
FF13 is an exciting game that is really pulling RPG's forwards, it merges old skool RPG with MMO and something new. The changes are brave and SE should be applauded imo.
Final Fantasy....Greatest Game Series Of Them All August 9, 2010 CGGREENHILL (Birmingham) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Its probably best for me to avoid an extremely in depth review on the battle system (half the fun is learning to use it without resorting to the Auto Battle button...which to be honest will seriously hamper your enjoyment of the title) or a whistle stop run through of the games plot (As the game should be played and enjoyed as you uncover the story and each charters plot) nor will I over analyze how simply stunning the games graphical engine is (Trust me you have not seen anything like it before.....simply amazing) I'm not going to even detail how vast the scope of the game becomes once you have played through the first few liner hours.
Which may leave you wondering what exactly I have got to say about this game and why you should add it to your PS3/360 game collection?
Well to be honest if you A, have enjoyed any of the previous Final Fantasy games (not just VIII) then it's a no brainer and you should get this game.
B, If you don't enjoy or have never enjoyed the tiered, complicated combat structure of the Final Fantasy games or games of this type (Japanese Role Playing Games JRPG) then a purchase is pointless as this game will do little to change your mind or opinion no matter how amazingly stunning it is.
Hope this helps!
