4 out of 5 stars Well-rounded   May 30, 2010
M. Wilson (Montgomery, AL (USA))
Whenever the price of these headphones dips below $35, I usually buy a pair. This is a tradition I've carried on since buying my first pair in 2003. The sound quality of these is great, the fold-up feature makes them incredibly portable, and any music you enjoy through these headphones will be audible to you and you alone thanks to the quality audio-sealing feature. The only problem is that if you use them everyday (as I do), you may be buying new pairs every two years (as I do)-- durability is not the strong suit of the Sennheiser PX200 headphones.

3 out of 5 stars The shape when you're actually wearing it:   May 12, 2010
WetPaint
First off, while I had these headphones, they never broke. I simply lost them, and I lugged them around school all day and threw them into my backpack .. so it's durability deserves an A+. <333

-I would buy these headphones again, but there's one thing that absolutely bothers me:
You see those square pads that are on the band? Those do make it more comfy to wear... but they also create the headphones to make a boxy shape around your head. I find it to be quite unattractive. Considering I am also female, that is something I take into account.

-The case it comes with:
The case is pretty cool, if you plan on spending a gazillion minutes every time you put away your headphones. First off, it was kinda weird to figure out. Second, the cord wrapping takes forever on the case. So I simply collapsed them and wrapped the cord down the middle and threw them into the bag. :)

+/-Comfort:
Wearing for 1 hour, no problem... 2 hours maybe some discomfort and 3 hours is pushing it. But I still find the comfort level to be more than decent. It just makes your ears feel sore after awhile. No biggie.

+Size:
I LOVE the size of these headphones, my ears are very small so they fit comfortably on top. Granted, they shouldn't really be covering anyone's entire ear unless that person is a small child. But I like smaller headphones for the reason that... I'm sort of small so large headphones look extremely awkward on me.

-/+Noise canceling
It does OKAY... actually you usually do hear a lot of crap around you. Kind of crappy. But it works.

+Sound Quality
Sure.

2 out of 5 stars Sennheiser PX200 vs Koss portaPro   March 18, 2010
. (NYC)
First off let me say that I've been using the Koss portaPros for years so I'm likely to be a bit biased but...

I'm not going to say that the Sennheisers are built badly nor were they uncomfortable, but the sound wasn't really good for me. When compared to the Koss they just didn't have the kick that made them a good match for my regular, larger and better quality Shure SRH840s nor did the low end feel strong enough. For me that's what it's all about-a good match. Once I've found a set of regular ear phones that I'm comfortable with having a more pedestrian pair of cans for comparison makes sense to me. The Koss just do that where as the Sennheisers did not.
I'll use them with my iPod Touch to listen not only to various bits of music from rock to jazz to classical to house, but also to listen to songs I write and to be used to critically listen to mixes. So they do need to be spot-on.
Also the Sennheisers just didn't sit on my ears as closely and tightly as the Koss and that is what really gives the bass the umph (technical term.)
So in the end the Sennheisers aren't bad, but for me they just don't measure up to the Koss.

5 out of 5 stars good headphone   February 14, 2010
Berkin Birol (Istanbul, Turkey)
I used this headphones for 4-5 years long, till it's earcups leather skin fall apart. Then I gave it to my cousin, who used it for 5-6 months. After 5-6 months, there wasn't any sponges on the earcups, completely mess:) But still superb sound quality continued. Now I had bought the second generation of this item for myself, and a first gen. for my cousin. Both are really good. The second gen. has a soft case, which I dont like much. This old ones hardcase is excellent for protection.

This headphone isolates outside noise so well, that you can't hear your friends talking even if you listen music not so loud. It's excellent for travelling in public transportation. You don't hear any outside noises and people around you don't hear your music. The only bad thing about this headphone could be the sweat on your ears, because of it's leather cups. :)

This is a really good headphone overall, which deserves every penny. I am sure that, if this is the first time to use a hi-fi headphone, you'll find new tunes in your old songs :)

4 out of 5 stars Only 3.5 Stars for One Main Reason   February 12, 2010
Thomas S. Long (Harrisburg, PA)
3 out of 4 found this review helpful

I'm gonna set the record straight for the people out there reading reviews who are like me, and want things to be explained in elementary terms.

3 months ago I did extensive research in hopes of finding the perfect headphones. I ended up getting two pairs. I bought the Sennheiser 595's for soul music and sampled hip hop production - and also for general listening of all genres (f.y.i - AMAZING headphones). Then, I bought these Sennheiser PX200's because the 595's leak mass amounts of sound, and sometimes I work on music late at night while my girl is sleeping, or in the living room while my roommate is watching TV. So for things like that, I needed a second headphone that was inexpensive, had good sound, and kept the outside noises to a minimum - after much review reading, I settled on these.

I will start with the good things - these headphones (at the time I purchased were on sale for $40) are a GREAT value. The collapsable aspect and carrying case are awesome for travel and storage. They are extremely comfortable - I have fallen asleep with them on my head a handful of times and wake up in comfort with no damage to the headphones. And as for the sound, generally speaking the sound is impeccable for a $40 - $60 pair of headphones. You will noticably hear instruments and walls of sound that you never really noticed in basic headphones or speakers. These are almost as good as the 595's in that aspect - the mids and highs are very, very clear and well-rounded, and they really do have a crisp delivery.

There is, however, one MAJOR downfall. When I say major, I mean it's enough to frustrate the hell out of me, and makes me not want to use them. That downfall is the BASS. It's not just weak, it's not just unclear, it DOES NOT EXIST. I want to make that clear, because when reading reviews I was led to believe that it's just a little softer than some of the big old expensive headphones. No - to repeat - IT DOES NOT EXIST. I'm not even a fan of heavy bass - I just like it to be crisp and have a solid presence. Not found here. Even the drums are affected by the lack of bass - kicks and snares sound lazy, weak and empty. Even if you press the headphones against your ears the bass is STILL weak.

So, generally speaking, for most soul music, jazz, classic rock, accoustic rock, etc. The PX200's are great. But for hip hop, electronic, and most newer rock like Edward Sharpe & Kings of Leon, these headphones have a major, major downfall.

My overall rating is really 3.5 stars. If the bass was good, it would be a 5.

If you are like me, I would recommend instead the Sennheiser earbuds. I have the CX300's and my girl has the CX380 Sport, and they are both very, very good. Or else I would drop a couple extra bills and get some higher-end headphones that are sure to satisfy.

Hope that helps.
